Dear Keith,
How very nice to hear from you, and what a co-incidence, as it was only yesterday that I received some very useful information from the MSI.
I am pursuing two lines of research re U-505. The first concerning the US Navy staff work between 1947 and 1954, and the second concerning the details of the War Bond Tours.
Re the first, I have the Theodore P Savas book "Hunt and Kill", with your chapter on Project 356, and I now have some of the source documents which I need. There are just a few more to track down and, if I may, I'll come back to you if I can't trace them at the MSI.
Re the second, I have to say (with 20/20 hindsight) that it's quite amazing that there is no comprehensive report on U-505's two War Bond Tours. Yes, I have an outline (after a lot of help from many people), but the "whole story" continues to be elusive.
However, your earlier "post" suggested that you might have (or know where to find) the details which I seek, which would I hope contain much more information than just the short commentary on page 165 of "Hunt and Kill".
So, anything that you can possibly do to fill-in this hole in the overall story of U-505 really would be wonderful.
If all else fails, then I think the only solution is a tedious trawl through the NARA Deck Logs of USS Eunice and USS Neuzner, but I need a "friend" in Washington to effect that. Any volunteers, please?
Thanks for your continuing interest, and I look forward to knowing your further thoughts on the topic.
Yours aye
Derek
