Hello Derek:
Ken Dunn obtained an invitation to the commissioning ceremony of the new U-505 exhibit at the museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois on June 4, 2005.
I met him there and we spent the whole day looking at and taking photos of the boat.
If anyone is interesting in viewing 26 black & white photos of her journey from Portsmouth Navy Yard to Chicago, go to: [www.uboat.net]
These are all "thumbnails" so just click on each one for an enlarged view.
Also, the following piece by Keith Gill, curator of the U-505 exhibit, tells about working over the starboard engine to make it run. This appeared in "General Discussions" on May 24, 2008 07:23PM.
