<HTML>Craig,

There\'s a long and short answer to your question. The short answer is most have not been visited.

The long answer: This site lists 56 WWII U-boats that were lost to unknown cause (there are a number of additional losses to unknown cause from WWI). Of course, it is likely that listed cause of loss on other boats is wrong. Of the total 688 losses by cause on this website, the majority happened in waters too deep to be reached by scuba divers. While known wreck sites in divable waters are likely to have been visited, there has been little reason to search for visit sites in deeper water. The case of U 166 is an exception, as it was pretty much an accidental discovery while laying an oil pipeline.

Best wishes,

Michael</HTML>
