you are not correct in your ascertion. The Head was actually not on Deck, but on the aft end of the conning tower\'s bulkhead on starboard side. This was in the original type IX towers and survived the earlier tower conversions until the installation of the so-called Panzerkasten (armoured boxes for one or two men to shelter from machine gun fire of attacking aircraft). It was a fold down contraption just fwd of the stbd air intake with a pipe down inside the tower casing out over the side thru the side flood vent. There was no enclosure and it is in the open within 4 feet of the conning twr hatch. For my life I can\'t understand, how they missed this guy. Rgds, RB </HTML>
