Just a quick note of rememberance it is 70 years ago this month the Blink was sunk. My father Captain Birger Lunde was the only surviving officer. Although he was sunk three times in the war and left 2 other ships that were sunk this experience always weighed very heavily on him. They were torpedoed at night during some very bad weather. Of the 23 able to enter the lifeboat only 6 would survive. This would be one of Norway's worst maritime disasters. Resources and energies devoted to the crews in the Merchant Marine were almost always limited. As the first mate on the ship he personally tried to visit the families of the lost crew. Having lost all his personal belongings and greatly weakened by the ordeal found himself restarting his life in a then foreign land. A few months later he was back on the sea.
