Thanks for the info. but, thats sure is one hell of a way to demoralise your crew. In action and under attack from the enemy...... dont think anyone could have thought of a better way.....Still, it showed the strength and moral courage of his crew and in particular that of Oblt.z.S Paul Meyer in surviving and getting back home safely, and yes to sail again on the same U 505.
I dont think the effect on the crew would have been quite as bad if the U 505 had been in transit either to or from her patrol area.
So, just what sort of person that could take his life in this senario?
Walter M. I would appreciate some comments from you on the above if at all possible.

did they assist his death instead of trying to aid his recovery.
