Hi Rainer,
Thanks for the input, the position from U-43 and the additional distance make more sense mow. I always wondered why it took the survivors so long to reach Ireland from the original position. I put it down to a lack of surviving navigating officers.
I thought the description of the uniforms and the type of sub may have been half right, when initially suspecting an Italian boat, but the young kid was most bizarre. But then again a month in an open lifeboat probably would affect your memory of events.
