<HTML>Hey Clark,
You may be right about the corrosion, but it\'s interesing to consider. Perhaps you could raise several and cobble together one working boat\'s major elements. I do believe the \'delicate\' components-electronics, gaskets, seals, valves, etc may be real hard to do.
Who would want to do this? Where could we get $$$ to do this?
Betcha there\'s a lotta folks interested. The Civil War sub Huntley was just raised in Charleston harbor, and of course the Kursk is in progress. Bob Ballard? Historians? Survivung WWII naval personnel? You know some of them have been successful in business after teh war. Uboat net readers? Sure. What about raising or refurbishing an American, Brit, Italian, Japanese, and putting them \'on tour\' like is done with WWII aircraft? Hey, hollywood might want to use them as real props in the next U571 type movie.
Fun to think aobut, but we\'d need to get a line on knowledgable veterans ASAP. That type of manufacturing/refurbishing maintenance skills are priceless! Erich Topp is a good start...
