Often I hear the explication that the Allies were not aware of these type of bunkers with such a roof, but in fact they know them because the German Imperial Navy has built one U-Boote-Bunker of the same type between 1917 and 1918 in Brugges, in occupy Belgium, with (8 I believe) U-Boats pens to protect their U-Boats from Air raids. The difference between the second World War is that at this time the Germans have included the repairs shops Inside the base, this was not the case in WWI.
But the Allies learned the lesson of the 5 Atlantic U-Boats bases, because a 6th one which was being built in Marseille (South of France) has been heavily bombed on 2th December 1943 and was never completed !
