<HTML>I believe the one being referenced here was a 1930s French submarine that mounted a pair of 8\" guns in a turret in front of the tower. She also carried an aeroplane in a water-tight hanger aft. In a surface gun battle, she would probably have been effective against destroyers. Armoured vessels might also be vulnerable, but since it wasn\'t practical to armour a submarine, I\'d expect she\'d avoid battle with anything that could likely damage her. The heavy gun armament was never really intended for battling other warships -- torpedoes would be a safer bet -- but for commerce raiding. In any event, she never saw combat, being lost in a collision before the war.
