Having read several sources, the crew complement on this boat when lost varies from 20+ to 40+. If she was on Deep Diving tests, would she need a full crew complement to be on board?. As the torpedo and flak crews would be surplus to requirements, and so should anything go wrong there loss would have been needless. Also the survivors were [28] rescued by a mine-sweeper or were [11] saved by a German aircraft? john
