The nameplate is not true plastic. per se. Don't know the exact name of it, but I do believe this technology was in existence during WWII. I've seen pictures from that period where machine parts are labelled, lockers assigned, etc.
As to 'Commander Hermann Steinert', I also do not believe he is the right person who originally owned the locker. His U-boat was sunk, not captured, and it was by American forces, not British.
So, the mystery continues.
