SS Memnon

This ship sunk by U106 on 11.03.41, of her survivors, one life boat is listed as being intercepted by the German battlecruiser Gneisenau, where three RAF personell and one Armed guard were removed as POW.Having tried to find out when and where this incident was to have taken place, I have not found any mention, even in Whitley's excellent book on German Capital ships, where a day to day record of the time Gneisenau with Scharnhorst were at sea when Memnon was sunk, Operation Berlin'. What he does record that Gneisenau was re-fuelling between March 9th to 12th and then she was spotted by HMS Rodney on the 16th, then made off to Brest. While she was engaged in searching for enemy convoys, it seems strange if not reckless considering that they knew Royal navy had capital ships protecting convoys, that she would stop for a single life boat. Is the source of Gneisenau capturing these four men known? John
