The only U-boat in the general area (of K-14 sinking - Square BA) at the time (02 July) was U 233 in Square BB - she was sunk on 5 July 1944 32 dead and 29 survivors. Her KTB was not recovered and not sure if there exits an interrogation report of the remaining survivors 0f U 233.

From: Blimps and U-boats : U.S. Navy airships in the battlie of the
Atlantic by J. Gordon Vaeth (1992) lSBN 1-55750-876-3 (Page 155)

ZP-II's K-14 flew itself into the water on 2 July 1944 while
conducting an MAD search near Bar Harbor, Maine. Altitude was
between 200 and 250 feet when the copilot, having just relieved the
man on the elevators, diverted his attention from the altitude and
began to adjust the intensity of the ultraviolet light illuminating
the instruments. There was no forward lookout in the bombardier's
position. Without anyone noticing it, the K-14 was nosing down and
losing altitude. When, at last, someone saw how close the water was
and called out, it was too late. Into the sea went the airship.
There was the wrenching sound of metal being bent and broken.
Then the gurgling of seawater as it entered the car. Five men
managed to get out, the fifth becoming separated from the others
and disappearing. When the car was recovered, it was found that
its outboard bombs were missing and that the arming wires were in
place, meaning that they had been armed when they left the ship.
The envelope, when salvaged, was torn aft and had its stern ripped
away. Investigator concluded that the bombs had gone off after
impact upon sinking to their fifty-foot settings. An Army boat picked
up the four survivors. The bodies of the remaining six were recovered.

The cause of the crash of K-14 has been an ongoing controversy in some quarters - accident or u-boat.
