Hi Scott. many thanks for the detailed reply, I am finding more and more[Watch] officers, who being named as being with the type IXB U-boats, and quite possibly other types as well, but not actually going out on any patrols, which assuming the boats were being repaired or overhauled at that time, then any experience of U-boat operations would be limited to just to getting to know their way around a U-boat many instruments etc, before going out on a operational U-boat.
