Uboat in Jeremie, Haiti

A few years ago I saw a German uboat only a few feet from shore near Jeremie, Haiti. Discussions with local residents indicated that the crew had reportdly scuttled the uboat at the end of WW ll and had gone ashore and disappeared into the countryside. The residents feared that the uboat was booby-trapped and no one had attempted to enter it. I query whether anyone knows about the existence of this uboat, the actions of the crew upon leaving it, or anything else. Is there any interest by experts in examining this uboat, after of course taking necessary precautions?
