It 's true what he says Platon,
our meetings were held which were held in the most sincere friendship.
We did not find anything fully satisfactory, except that we found out that the German torpedo boats with the Houseboat San Giusto were not just three but five.
In NOTICES Supermarina direct to the Command of the German Navy in Italy who was in the same premises of the Ministry of the Navy) have in fact traced these two references, dated April 29, 1942:
No. 5112: "Notice is hereby given that the self-propelled [landing craft] F 150 - F 154 and F 156 departed from Benghazi to Darnah to 1000 today 28 current at a speed of 9 miles, with expected arrival at dawn tomorrow 29. Riccardi ".
No. 5137: "Self-propelled Germanic et F 152 F 158 are from Benghazi to Darnah to 20.00".
It follows, as is reported in the Mod. C. 2 Captain Mancini, who ships escorted by Cr. 42 were actually six. The Houseboat San Giusto, who had left Navarino with its cargo of mines at 08:15 on April 27 and the five motozattere German, who evidently had gathered to come to the appointment with the San Giusto to form, in the coastal route to Derna, the so-called Convoy "San Giusto". So the air escort of Cr. 42 needed for the entire convoy of ships gathered.
The appointment with a ship that arrived from the north and the five landing craft from the west could only be the northernmost tip of Cyrenaica, namely Ras el Hilal. E 'to believe that the British knew that this was a sensitive focal point of transit navoiglio Axis, and evidently informed (a hypothesis), at that point sent the URGE.
Finally it says that travel times were not respected because the expected arrival of the first three landing craft to Derna, scheduled for dawn on April 30, took place at 13.00 instead. Evidently the three motozattere F 150, F 154 and F 156 had been held for a general reunion. last hour, which, in my opinion, was just about the presence of San Giusto, which was to have a naval protection, albeit modest.
