in steel boats iron hearts hans goebeler tells the story of the funeral of captain peter zschech. "they placed his body into a hammock, put a trim weight between his feet, and then sewed the hammock closed from bottom to top." generally the crew would be called to attention and a ceremony would be caried out but because of the cercumstances of zsech's death no ceremonies were held
