Who did Jökull save

On September 12th 1940 or thereabouts the Icelandic trawler Jökull saved a sole survivor from the keel of a rescue boat somewhere around Ireland. He said he had been on a ship with a crew of 50 and after the ship had been torpedoed while he was sleeping he found himself in the sea. A few others had managed to get on the keel of the boat but they were all dead by the time Jökull found the boat. Does anyone know what ship this unnamed survivor could have been on?
