Regarding the sinking of U562 my father was an ASDIC operator on HMS Hursley at the time of the sinking - he died May 2015 aged 91 - This is his memory of that fateful day - The Isis and Hursley were depth charging U562 and after a period of time the U -boat began to surface - all hands were cheering - one of the ratings on the depth charge still and the toggle for firing the depth charge in his hand when he threw his hands up to cheer the depth charge was fired - to the horror of all hands ( in their minds they had won by bringing the sub to the surface) the charge sailed into the air went down by the side of the sub (it was set to explode at 50 feet - approx. 16 metres) and exploded under the sub sending it to the bottom - nobody on board cheered.
