Thanks for the interpretation of the encounter between the Coamo and U-604.
I have read the Captain's log entries and was trying to determine if the Coamo had spotted the sub or was the torpedo the only warning. The log also refers to three boats which I interpret as life boats. The next three days were identified as having a severe gale in the area and if there were survivors in any boats, they were certainly lost.
I realize that there may never be any conclusive answers, but having a clearer idea of what happened is comforting in a way.
On a personal note, Lawrence Glowczewski, my mom's brother was a 21 year old sailor on that boat. I am named for him.
