<HTML>hey...mostly the guns were not fixed ones.the were foldables and vanished under the deck plating. in 44 and 45 they were allso used for shelling land positions.
concerning idiotic greasing of stainless steel-german style: i dont know wether you are a diver.i am.if you splash in salt water your knife gets rusty if you dont rinse it very good after every dive with sweet ware.and those knives are made of stainless,too.
so i suppose greasing guns was a necessity-not idiotic german behaviour.but maybe british and american or french steel doesnt rust in salt water........</HTML>
