Wreck of U 743 is in fact U 1003

<HTML>During the \"Operation Deadlight\" diving expedition this summer an unknown wreck was found by Innes McCartney and others. In my message to this board on 19 July I concluded on the wrecks identity as U 743. I regret to say that a fresh examination based on additional information lead to the conclusion that the wreck should be U 1003 which was scuttled by its crew at about 0730 on the 23 March 1945 close to the wreck position as given by Innes [55°38n/07°26w]. The surviving crew members were picked up at 0842/23 by the Canadian frigate Thetford Mines in a position 336 degs Innistrahull 16 miles which fits the wreck position quite nicely. Needless say that U 1003 was rammed by the Canadian frigate New Glasgow late on the 20 March during schnorkeling, which resulted in the damage reported by the divers.
