<HTML>Have just watched Das Boot for the umptenth time and saw this question on the forum. I think they used a torpedo because hadn.t they just surfaced after being down for a number of hrs. after being depth charged after their attack.Perhaps a surface attack would alert any destroyers still in the area. Just a thought. I also think the captain as a sailor states something about a proud ship going down. I get the impression that although a war is being fought many of the old time german commanders were sailors first and thought of ships as noble vessels. Perhaps like shooting a prize racehorse instead of letting it suffer. I kind of got this impression from books and conversations i have read and heard. Please reply and let me know what others think of this idea.</HTML>
