This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>Re the air attack. I cannot be definite but the aircraft in question looked like a North American Harvard, which admittedly was a training aircraft but has the advantage of being modified to resemble other types. Think of films like Tora Tora Tora & Midway. The Tiger Moth fulfils a similar role in WW1 films.
I do not recall seeing Corsairs in the film (they are present in Peckinpah\'s Cross of Iron) but my memory could be off.
Apropos the bombing sequence at the end, at one point it looks as though some footage from the 1968 film \"Battle of Britain\" (another classic) has been edited in. The aircraft appear to be CASA 211\'s (Spanish Heinkels with Merlin engines).
Think also of the WW1 films The Blue Max & Aces High. Having watched the two within a few days of each other, the same sequences can be seen, though in some cases the negative has been reversed (copyright?) The continuity is also suspect - one minute the plane is a Fokker DVII, then a Pfalz, then a Tiger Moth.
I do appreciate that the majority of the filmwatching public are not too bothered about inconsistencies and maybe I should get out more.
Incidentally, having recently read a book titled \"Wolf\" which profiles some of the more famous commanders (Topp, Merten, Kretschmer et al) it was interesting to note that there were arguments on set between Buchheim & Petersen and a series of quite vitriolic letters between Buchheim & Merten.
At the end of the day however Das Boot is still probably the finest war film produced to date.
That should get you talking!</HTML>
