This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>Just because the director studied the U-110 capture does not mean that he based the movie on it. The only similarity between U-110(real) and U-571(movie) is that U-boats and Enigma machines did exist in WWII. Besides, a Director does not create the plot of the movie, that is the writers and producer.
As to his statement \"the U-Boot Waffe contained the most fanatical Nazis of the entire German Kriegsmarine\", if it was rephrased as \"the U-Boot Waffe contained the most dedicated Germans of the entire German Kriegsmarine\", I doubt that you would disagree. To many, there is little distinction between a WWII German and a Nazi, and when talking of war, there is no difference between a fanatical enemy and a dedicated enemy.
U-571 is a bad movie, but it is no more a historical perversion than James Bond, 007 is a perversion of the history of the Cold War. You give U-571 too much credit is claiming that you recognize history in it.</HTML>
