<HTML>Strictly speaking, all versions of the F4F Wildcat/Marlet had six guns, but you\'re quite right about only 4 of them being wing mounted until the F4F-4 came out. It would have been available at the proper time, but I believe the French order the British took over was for F4F-3s, which would still have had two of the guns in the cowling. Movies being what they are, of course, things like anachronistic equipment tends to be overlooked. If the film was remade today, I suspect that any aircraft used would be absolutely authentic as to period, markings, armament, and what have you. I suspect they would also have no physical existence outside of a computer.

Mind you, I also find it a little confusing that the US would field two F4 fighters, the only difference being an alphabetic suffix, built by different contractors, and bearing no particular resemblance to each other. Hence, the F4F Wildcat from Grumman and the F4U Corsair from Vaught.</HTML>
