<HTML>What does 'please don't feed the troll' mean? If this is a forum to discuss 'Band of Brothers', surely we should talk about it here?
Anyway, I feel that my argument is justified. I think that this subject had a lot of potential, but just turned into a television copy of 'Saving Private Ryan', without any advances on what had been done previously!
If this is supposed to be France in 1944, after the allies had landed, where are the British and British Commonwealth forces? Where are the French resistance? It's like someone came along and just cut out a small portion of the large picture and discarded everything else.
Why was this done? What a disappointment. 'Band of Brothers' had potential to be much better, but it reverted to the simplistic, safe, 'small American squad goes through hell but triumphs over evil in the end' scenario. Presumably to pander to American audiences.
Wouldn't it be interesting if some of the characters were developed into three dimensional beings with loves and lives of their own. I mean, most of them have a tiny bit of character building when we first see them, then they're just carelessly shoved into the background and only brought out when it's time to die. A bit like that Italian character who was a friend of Leonardo in 'Titanic'.
As a result, you're not particularly moved when they inevitably bite the bullet. Huh, oh yeah, there goes another one. Was that the one who's only character trait was being a naive mid-westerner, the one who was religious, the toughened New Yorker, the mouthy one or the one of Italian/American descent? Who cares...</HTML>
