This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

First of all.. wolfgang petersen shouldn't direct... he had his prime while making Das Boot... but the things he made since then is pretty damn close to the most awfull stuff that comes out of hollywood. Yet another talented director that has been tainted by the movie industry...
The problem with a remake, would be that the original takes place during the right circumstances in the uboatwar... things are changing and 'the happy days' are over... now comes the time where the hunter becomes the hunted. This sets the stage for excellent nerve wrecking drama which shouldn't be remade... the only other scenario would be to make a movie on the more excotic stories like the monsoon boats and the journeys from europe to asia... or maybe the failed japanese attack on panama with their giant subs.
One thing I missed in Das boot was some deckgun action...
Das boot rerelease uncut version, is a rather disappointing release... it would have been nice if the DVD release was packed with xtra material such as the story of the uboat war, highlights in submarine warfare - what was asdic.. and so on..., instead of that short and uninspiring 'behind the scenes' sorry for the angry remarks but I am as you can tell still amazed how movieproduction companies can fool us all into buying the same stuff over and over again without really improving it......
