I have seen photos of Reichsmarine personnel dressed in elaborate costumes during the equator crossing in the Pacific Ocean.

Also in the distant past many photos of American sailors dressed in hula skirts. So a little show aboard a submarine to break the monotony did not seem unrealistic.
