Eric / Dirk:
The Surcouf was probably accidentally sunk with all hands by a friendly fire incident by american airplanes on feb 18, 1942. At the time the Surcouf was manned by Free French forces and was an allied war vessel. An alternative theory is that it was sunk by US surface ships in a friendly fire incident. There is no proof of it ever having re-fueled German U-boats.
