Hello Barry Scully,
thank you very much for your well wishes from your great country, it seemed to have helped even though very closely, as also noticed by our friend JNM in a personal message to me, for which I am thankful.
Now as to the acting.
Let me All of you know firstly that the movie “Das Boot†was awarded the “Goldene Kamera†in Berlin due to his twenty- fifths anniversary of its release. The Golden Kamera is kind of a mini – Oscar, sponsored by one of the biggest German Publisher “Springer†and celebrated once a year.
Present at this occasion were Petersen, Rohrbach (producer), Prochnow, Semmelroge, Feddersen, Stritzel, the ensign, Hinrich, IWO, Doldinger and a few others as far as I remember. They all looked pretty good and had a good time at this “class reunionâ€. Der Alte gave the usual “Thanks giving†speech and noticed remarkably, that from his humble point of view for the actors of this movie in the aftermath of “Das Boot†no such success had occurred in another film and he doubted, if this would happened in the foreseeable future if at all. “Was kam nach dem BOOT…?, he shrugged.
Acting basically as LWB I think JP did. One the other hand your point him depicting an unnamed commander has merits as to the assumption LGB meant LWB to be kind of representative of the vast majority of the commanders in that they fulfilled their duty as none nonsense men being rather apolitical and weren’t hesitating to criticise the “a…holes†at the helms but within their closed U-boat realms, something which KUSCH paid for with his life, and I think should always be kept in mind.
Anyway, you All have a nice weekend, and on Sunday afternoon about six pm I’ll have a few of these very tasty black ones no matter who wins or looses.
