Kptlt. Ernst Cordes chose this very nice emblem on his U-763 in early 1943. The Unicorn is a symbol for the Austrian town of Bludenz, as U-763 and U-1195 enjoyed a close relationship to that town.

Cordes then took this emblem with him when he took command of the U-1195 in November 1944.
