Oostende was a complete failure, Zeebrugge was partially a success but did not keep the German U-boats imprisoned as always has been told.
The book is partially fiction as it uses a fictional person to tell the story but gives a very good description of what really happened. Of course due to the period of publishing some nationalistic talk is never really far away.
