All of Jack Higgins WWII novels are easy and fun reading. Each has a great deal of suspense with some fiction and nonfiction elements to them.

All the loose ends seem to tie in to a action packed main theme of great endeavours with plots and counter plots and the recorded love of ones fellow humans that really comes to the fore when seemingly insignificant people are faced with the decisions requiring great and selfless bravery coupled with huge tests of character. Underlying romances have also been captured giving the action a touch of softness that is brilliantly portrayed.
A thoroughly good read that I am happy to recommend. I would have given it a five however there were one or two rather large calls on credibility that knocked that last star off, however, it is after all only fiction.

This book is one of those select few that I read over & over again. I have recommended it to numerous people & have even sent it to some, but NEVER my own copy.

The book emphasizes the humanity and dedication of the Germans who were fighting for the Nazi cause, but omits the horrible consequences for the victims of their aggression. The Germans who fought in WWII did so in support of a regime that chose to invade peaceful countries and then kill, torture and destroy innocent victims. The English and Americans were only defending themselves and saved the world but the book puts them on a par with the Germans. The book's efforts to humanize the Germans and talk about their families and aspirations disregards the evil nature of their acts and the destruction they caused to millions of innocents.

Multiple strands weave a fascinating tapestry of
action in this WWII adventure on the seas. A
sailing ship complete with an order of nuns, a German submariner
and an American doctor 'collide' in this well-written story

I really enjoy works by Jack Higgins and this one as well.

The remaining 5% refers to a section of the book starting with the capture and transport the UBoat captain. Captured, escapes, captured again, escapes again and once more captured!! The circumstances of each of these escape/capture sequences reads like a Mel Brooks comedy.

I will not reveal the final fate of the captain so as to not spoil it for a prospective reader.

It is a good and interesting read. Worth you time and $
