About the authors
Jack Higgins was a soldier and then a teacher before becoming a full-time writer. 'The Eagle Has Landed' turned him into an international bestselling author and his novels have since sold over 250 million copies and been translated into fifty-five languages. Many of them have also been made into successful films.
William Steig (1907–2003) published his first children’s book, Roland the Minstrel Pig, in 1968, and received the Caldecott Medal for Sylvester and the Magic Pebble (978-1416902065) in 1970. His works also include The Amazing Bone, a Caldecott Honor Book, and Abel’s Island and Doctor De Soto, both Newbery Honor Books. His most recent books published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux are Shrek! (released by DreamWorks as a major motion picture) and Wizzil, illustrated by Quentin Blake. School Library Journal named Shrek! a Best Book of 1990 and said of it, "Steig's inimitable wit and artistic dash have never been sharper or more expertly blended."

A thoroughly good read that I am happy to recommend. I would have given it a five however there were one or two rather large calls on credibility that knocked that last star off, however, it is after all only fiction.
action in this WWII adventure on the seas. A
sailing ship complete with an order of nuns, a German submariner
and an American doctor 'collide' in this well-written story
The remaining 5% refers to a section of the book starting with the capture and transport the UBoat captain. Captured, escapes, captured again, escapes again and once more captured!! The circumstances of each of these escape/capture sequences reads like a Mel Brooks comedy.
I will not reveal the final fate of the captain so as to not spoil it for a prospective reader.
It is a good and interesting read. Worth you time and $
