I am very hapy
I get it very quickly
without you I could not find these books
first because they do not know, in France, to write such books Secondly they would not know we do'nt discover because it has no library as smart and as rich as the vôtres.et This is where the role you play is also essential

It's OK but I don't think there was much original research or knowledge displayed in It. Yes, the chapter Notes are extensive but the conclusions have been long established in many other books. The book emphasizes the British advantage in intercepting and decrypting the German high command radio signals and also the direction finding techniques. The book provides an almost monthly discussion of the U-boat attacks in the Atlantic and the British defensive efforts.

The book provides some basic technical information on German submarine design and tactics and British escort ship design and weaponry. There is little discussion on Allied cargo ship design and construction such as the American "Liberty" ships or the British and Canadian ships. There are no tabulations of shipping losses.

There is some discussion on the Allied command inability or refusal to deploy very long range (VLR) aircraft such as the American B-24s to patrol the mid-Atlantic gap until the summer of 1943.

This book examines the Battle of the Atlantic from the viewpoint of code-breaking and its influence on the struggle against the U-Boats. The author takes the stand that code-breaking, radio-intercepts, and radio-direction finding were the be-all and end-all of the conflict. Very little of the other technologies and tactics are present in this book. Although the radio intercepts did play a role, they were not the decisive factor in battle. It is unfortunate that more attention was not paid to these aspects. All-in-all, therefore, it makes a meager contribution to military history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its a useful book because of its detailed approach
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 1, 2017
Its a useful book because of its detailed approach, but I think it suffers from something that many other books also suffer from in that it ignores the wider issues of what was a war of attrition. For example the reorganisation of wartime shipbuilding programmes, the overall impact of the North African landings on shipping availability and so on. Were the U boats ever really in a position to win the war for germany? No.
