At 00.24 hours on 23 May 1942 the unescorted Zurichmoor (Master Herbert Dixon Hodgson) was hit by two torpedoes from U-432 and sank by the bow within 90 seconds about 400 miles east of Philadelphia. The master, 38 crew members and six gunners were lost.
