U boat model

I have acquired what I think is a POW made model of the U99. It is about 16" long and is all made of metal and painted appropriately. You can tell that some of the parts of it are "pick up" items such as nails, springs, wire etc.. It is extermely well made as if done by a master toy maker which the Germans were very good at. I know that 40 crew members survived. is there any way to truly authenticate it's origin?.....Jack
