U-Boat Ocean Diorama

Hi. I have a 1?72 scale Revell Type VIIC U-boat I want to depict in an ocean-going diorama as if it's almost finished surfacing, complete with rolling waves (not heavy seas) and water being blown from the ballast tanks. Problem is, I'never modeled water especially on that scale. The factors I'm having to consider is rolling wave structure, dynamics between the waves and ship's wake, as well as the water being blown out. I saw Olaf Krabbenhoft's U-boat diorama in the models gallery and I was seriously impressed. That's basically the style of waves I'm looking to do. Can anyone help me?
