Hi Jerry/Woody,
I suspect the Academy IX you mentioned is the battery powered one, which I mistakenly ordered a couple weeks ago. It is a toy, not a scale model. The stern area is configured in a single prop, whereas all IIV and IX's were twin screw - as you know.
Re net cutters I stand corrected after seeing pics of IXB's in early war actions. AG Weser Boats U171-176 delivered Oct/Dec
41 did not have any. All were IXC with short towers.
Have not found a 1/4" scale 8.8 yet, only a 5" for US fleet subs.
