Hi Rainer:

I\'m looking at the plan-rolle at the rear of \"Vom Original zum Modell: Uboottyp IXc, by Fritz Köhl and Axel Niestlé. On Plan #1, a Type-IX C, this hatch is completely round and is located forward of the aft. navigation light and is slightly offset to starboard. In the same book on plan #4, a Type-IXc/40 late war, with the cut-down fwd. deck casing and equipped with an schnorchel. The hatch, like you are saying with the scallops, is shown on this planrolle with the scallops on the aft side of the round hatch. If you can get the full size Planrolle: Ubootyp IX C, ISBN 3-7637-6006-7 I believe that it would be of help. I don’t have a clue to what this hatch or vent is or what it does.
