Hi Peter:

The hinge is in the front of the doors toward the bows. When the torpedo tube bow cap opened the torpedo doors slide forward, a little, and then the aft part of the door, hinged to the bow cap, went towards the centerline of the U-boat with the torpedo tube bow cap on the Type-IXC.
