Hi Don,

to my personal knowledge, only very few photographs exist showing a clear view on the stern torpedo tube outer door :
1. a stern view of U99, while in dry dock at Lorient, reference Bundesarchiv Koblenz, MW 2026-4a
2.same, showing U968 on the Germaniawerft in Kiel ' 40/'41, ref. Bunderarchiv Koblenz, MA/K 103-1258-16.
I' m not sure whether one of these pictures was ever reproduced in a book.

An outer door does exist : if you would be looking for detailed plans on the type VIIC, then the booklet "Vom Original zum Modell : Uboottyp VIIC" by (the late) Fritz Kohl and Axel Niestle (resp. a former torpedomechaniker and an Uboot researcher) have an associated set of plans, of which plan nr. 6 shows some detail on the stern torpedo outer door, albeit not to full detail (unfortunately only the door is shown, not what would be an outer cover).
