David,

You don't need a shop when you have the internet. If you are a modeller than you'll have modelling scills. You can figure out weather the tools offered on the Internet are helpfull in your hobby or not. As for the modells, everything you need is offered on the Internet. From nearly every modell there is a comment of guys who build it before you. This comment is also stated on the Internet. Try to contact the Subcommittee, even better join them. They have a welth of information on there forum. If you have any problems finding specific items or vendors they surely can help you out.
