I would get a hold of the book GERMAN WARSHIPS 1815-1945 , Vol 2 by Erich Groner . Please see pages 46 to 48 , they have diagrams of the various conning towers and drainage slots that will help you with this project . You must first pick a u-boat number and stay with that ! Since some of the u-boat numbers that you are thinking of building were built by different yards the boats will look slightly different as they each had their own building variations .
If you are going to fill in some drainage holes you should you fiberglass cloth or glue some scrap plastic behind the hole first as the green putty was not meant to fill in open holes . That green putty has a high degree of shrinkage and is meant more as a surface filler , it has very little strength on it's own .
