My father, now 90, was and engine room operator an the frigate Outremont . Dad's recollection is that they discovered a uboat charging her batteries at dusk, and disabled her by hitting the conning tower with the 4.7 inch guns ..she was sunk. Prisoners were taken, among them the Captain who wore the iron cross for destroying over 100,000 tons of allied shipping. All prisoners were treated well. I read online much disrepancy about what really happened. What really happened from your perspective ?
