Hi Tom!

It is very interesting with the I-19 incident Sept -42.
There seems to have been a long controverse ever since about who did it though!
There is at this moment also a discussion in progress about this issue in
the Discussion Board on Imperial Japanese Navy Web Site.

Both Roskill:War at Sea,and Padfield:War beneath Sea,Numerous other historical
authors,as well as USNI Proceedings in some date and month,(I do not have date),
are of the oppinion that I-19 hit WASP,NORTH CAROLINA as well as O´BRIEN,
and sank WASP;with what has been called "probably the most effective
torpedoe salvo in submarine history",(Polmar & Carpenterconfused smileyubmarines of the
Imperial Japanese Navy 1904-1945).

However Morison:Hist of US naval operation in WW II,is of the oppinion that I-15
did the job on BB and DD.It is known that I-15 was in the area, because she
confirmed WASP´s sinking.

An evidence that though speaks for one salvo from I-19,is the timing of the hits:
WASP:14:45,NORTH CAROLINA:14:52 and O´BRIEN (a few hundred yards on
NORTH CAROLINA´s quarter):14:54.

Best regards/Anders.
