Hi, Fellows,
Just a small thing. On the Daphne subs, air is stored in groups of tanks, compressed to 300 bar (atmospheres). Each group consists of six or seven 200-liter steel tanks, and if I remember correctly there are six groups, making quite a lot of air storage!
By means of reducers, this air is also used the purposes mentioned, such as torpedo launching, operating main vent valves, starting the Diesels, as well as operating some of the masts and grinding the snort-mast main inlet valve after a submerged battery-charge.
