Mr. Helgason,
you wrote that the 88 mm deck gun was not capable of anti-aircraft fire, that's ONLY CORRECT fot the 8,8 cm S.K. C/35 in Ubts.L. C/35U.
There were two different 88 mm deck guns for U-Boats:
i) 8,8cm S.K. C/30U in Ubts.L. C/30U
ii) 8,8cm S.K. C/35 in Ubs.L. C/35U
The main difference was the gun carriage, which limited the C/35 gun's maximum elevation to 30 degrees.
The C/30U guns had a maximum elevation of 80 degrees, so, indeed a kind of capability of anti-aircraft fire.(horizontal range: 14175 m; vertical range: 9700 m)
MfG Michi
PS: There were also 2 different 105mm deck guns for the U-Boats:
i) 10,5cm S.K. C/32U in Ubts.L. C/32U (+ 35 degrees elevation)
ii) 10,5cm S.K. C/??? in Ubts.L. C/36U (+ 30 degrees elevation)
