Technology and Operations
Hi again Andrzej!
I hope Ricky will return to our discussion soon!
I do NOT think that You shall disregard the possibility that PIORUN could have
participated in U-1020 sinking! The fact that Rohwer does not mention Polish
destroyer´s name, does not have to mean that there were 2 British destroyers.
Contrary,I think since Rohwer mentions that there WAS a Polish destroyer
specifically,very strongly indicates Polish warship´s participation!Question is
wich Polish destroyer??
Unfortunatly I have not found any info on PIORUN´s movements in 1945.
neither any info on movements of ESKIMO and NUBIAN in Jan -45.
But Polish destroyer PIORUN certainly seems to have been a tuff little ship,
and in the heat of battle, all the way from at least May 1941 until at least Jan -45 !
In my books I have found info of PIORUN participating in close range gun duel
with BISMARCK,close Malta Convoy Escort in Operation Halberd,Atlantic Escort
for ON-97,the landings in Sicily,Calabria and Salerno, escorting Carrier Strikes
against Norwegian shipping,Channel Operations with gun duels with German
destroyers as well as minesweepers in the Normandy Landings, the sinking of
German Sperrbrecher 7,in Aug -44,;as well as carrying out landings on Audierne
in support of French Resistance Fighters in Sept -44.PIORUN sure was busy in
WW II ! ! !
